Custom Fixture Development Process
This is the flow of a custom test fixture development project. Test Head Engineering has done literally thousands of custom fixtures, many on very short cycles, so the process is streamlined. If you are just thinking about it or if you are ready to have your fixture designed, we will align with you and move at your desired speed.
- Customer discusses Requirements with Test Head Engineering
- Request a custom test fixture quotation
- Provide information that helps us understand your fixture’s requirements: Test Fixture Development Checklist, SOW, Gerbers, Solid Models, etc.
- Mutually agree on the design approach
- Test Head develops a quote that satisfies Requirements
- Discuss details with Customer and refine if necessary
- Customer places the order
- Customer transmits final revision UUT info to Test Head:
- Gerbers, Solid Models, Test Points listing, Wiring Information, etc.
- Sample UUT
- Design is created by Test Head Project Engineer
- Send e-drawings to Customer for review
- Discuss and implement any necessary changes
- Customer’s designated “approver” gives Test Head the “go ahead”
- Project Engineer completes the design documentation
- Submit BOM to Purchasing
- Submit Fab Drawings to the Machine Shop
- Project Engineer does/supervises the fixture build when all Purchased Parts, Custom Fab Parts, and Test Head’s Own-design Parts are ready
- Project Engineer tests and adjusts fixture fit and connections using customer’s UUT
- Custom fixture is delivered per the PO instructions.
- Project Engineer wraps-up the project:
- updates drawings with any in-process changes from the actual build
- sends final e-drawings package to Customer (per Test Head Engineering’s Terms).
- follows up with Customer to make sure the fixture meets their needs.
